Clark Township Bulky Pickup Program — 2026
Maria Torres · Union County Life
Getting rid of an old chair, broken window, or piece of storm screening can feel impossible until you know about Clark Township's free bulky waste pickup. The Department of Public Works runs this service every month from March through October, making it easy for residents to clear out large household items without hauling them to a landfill themselves.
The program is simple. Clark divides the township into four wards, each with its own pickup week. Ward 1 gets picked up during the first full week of the month, Ward 2 during the second week, and so on. You place your items at the curb on the Saturday or Sunday before your ward's scheduled week. No appointment required. The DPW comes through and collects what's been placed properly between the curb and sidewalk.
What can you put out? Furniture, doors, screens, windows, rugs (if cut and tied), toys, and non metal garden tools all count as acceptable bulky items. Put smaller pieces in open cardboard boxes or plastic bags, and bundle materials securely. Avoid placing anything loose on the street. Do not put items in garbage cans unless they're being picked up with the cans themselves. Items placed too early (before the Saturday or Sunday before your week) violate township rules and may be left at the curb.
What will not be picked up: construction debris, mattresses, box springs, propane tanks, auto parts, tires, concrete, logs, dirt, rocks, televisions, and fences. Scrap metal and appliances require a separate pickup request. Questions about whether a specific item qualifies? Contact the Department of Public Works at dpw@ourclark.com or call (732) 428-8402 before placing items curbside.
Pickup runs from March through October each year. Check Union County Life or the Clark Township website for your specific ward schedule and to confirm dates in your area. Find more Clark events, businesses, and local news on Union County Life.
FAQ
Do I need to make an appointment for bulky pickup?
No. As of September 2025, Clark Township eliminated the appointment requirement for regular bulky waste pickup. Simply place items at the curb on the Saturday or Sunday before your ward's scheduled week.
What if I have a mattress or appliance I need to get rid of?
Mattresses and appliances are not picked up with regular bulk waste. Contact the Department of Public Works to request a separate pickup for these items. Call (732) 428-8402 or email dpw@ourclark.com.
How do I know when my ward's pickup week is?
The township has four wards. Ward 1 is picked up during the first full week of each month, Ward 2 during the second week, Ward 3 during the third, and Ward 4 during the fourth. Confirm your specific ward and dates on the Clark Township website or by contacting the DPW.
What happens if I put items out too early?
Items placed before the Saturday or Sunday prior to your scheduled week may be left at the curb. Placing bulk items outside the designated timeframe violates township ordinance. Wait until the correct Saturday or Sunday to place items out.
