Summers in Roselle Park get a little easier when the Community Cooldown rolls around. What started as a way for families to beat the heat has become one of the highlights of the season—a free evening where neighbors gather, kids splash through water showers, and the Roselle Park Fire Department gets a chance to train while the whole community watches.
Council President Jay Robaina and the Fire Department organized these evenings because they knew families were looking for simple, affordable ways to enjoy summer together. "Between gas, tolls, parking, beach badges, and everything else that costs money, families need a night out that doesn't drain the wallet," Robaina said. Community Cooldown delivers exactly that—connection, fun, and a safe way to stay cool in the heat.
Firefighters perform pump and water hose drills throughout the hour, and children of all ages are welcome to run through the water showers to get sprayed down. It's as much training for the department as it is relief for kids tired of the summer heat. You'll see what volunteer firefighters do to keep the community safe while your kids have the time of their lives getting wet.
