Every fall, the Berkeley Heights Department of Public Works picks up residents’ bagged leaves on a set schedule. Collection starts in October and finishes by the end of December. Each section of town gets two pickups during the season.
Union County Life is sharing the program details so Berkeley Heights residents know how it works. To find your pickup dates, look up your street on the Township’s neighborhood schedule at berkeleyheights.gov/sections. Put your leaves at the curb before your section’s scheduled date. The Township asks residents to stick to the schedule because there is limited time to return to a section on unscheduled dates.
The Township does not have a vacuum truck, so leaves must be bagged, not raked into the road. Use paper biodegradable bags, stack them neatly at the curb, and fill them with leaves only. Do not block catch basins or sidewalks. Bags with anything other than leaves, or bags left on a driveway, will be rejected and left for you. DPW does not pick up branches, brush, or other yard waste in the fall. Please clear these from the road and right of way so drainage flows properly.
From November 1 to December 31, residents can also bring paper bagged leaves to the DPW at 101 Berkeley Avenue, next to Town Hall. Drop off is only on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month, from 9 AM to noon. That means November 7 and 21 and December 5 and 19. No grass is accepted, and contractor and commercial vehicles are not allowed. Leaves are no longer accepted at DPW during regular business hours.
