Westfield Memorial Library · 550 East Broad Street
Every Friday morning this summer, Westfield Memorial Library is giving seniors a reason to lace up their sneakers — without ever leaving the house.
The library's free Zoom series, Strength Training for Seniors, runs through August 28, 2026, with certified strength trainer Leena Kalle leading each session from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Eastern. The program is designed for older adults at any fitness level who want to stay active, build confidence, and feel stronger — on their own schedule, from their own space.
No gym membership. No commute. No equipment you don't already own.
Participants can join from any quiet room at home. The library recommends comfortable clothing, sneakers, and a sturdy chair within reach. For arm work, attendees can use hand-held weights, weighted balls, or two full 16-ounce water bottles. If you have the basics, you're ready.
Classes meet every Friday from June 5 through August 28, with no session on June 19 or July 3. Remaining dates include June 26, then every Thursday in July — July 10, 17, 24, and 31 — followed by August 7, 14, 21, and 28. The program is fully online; no visit to the library is required.
Registration is free and takes just a name and email address. The Zoom link arrives two days before each class. Sign up at events.wmlnj.org.
For questions, contact event organizer Jennifer Schulze through the library's website at wmlnj.org or by phone at (908) 789-4090. Westfield Memorial Library is located at 550 E. Broad Street, Westfield, NJ 07090, though this program takes place entirely online.
