Human Rights in Action in Union, NJ — July 2026

High school students looking to make a real difference have a place to spend their summer at Kean University. Human Rights in Action, a pre-college program hosted by Kean's Human Rights Institute in partnership with the Council on Global Education and Citizenship, invites students in grades 9–12 to join a four-day immersive experience. Through collaborative discussions and hands-on learning, participants will gain the tools and confidence to become effective change makers and allies in their schools, communities, and beyond.

The program is designed for young people who want to deepen their understanding of human rights and social justice issues while building real skills. Each day brings new workshops, discussions, and activities that help students discover their voice and learn how to use it in productive ways. Rather than sitting in lecture halls, students do the work of activism alongside peers who share their passion for change.

Students will spend four full days (9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) at Kean University's main campus, working with educators who believe young people are the driving force behind progress. By the end of the program, participants leave with new connections, deeper knowledge, and a clearer sense of how they can contribute to a more just world.

Who is this program for?
Human Rights in Action is open to high school students in grades 9–12. No prior experience in human rights or activism is needed. You just need to care about making a difference.
