:Berkeley Heights' annual fall leaf collection begins Monday, October 19. The Department of Public Works will collect leaves in each section of town twice between October and December. Residents can find their section at berkeleyheights.gov/sections. Union County Life is sharing the full schedule so Berkeley Heights residents can plan ahead.
Section 5 is first, with pickups October 19 to 23 and November 23 to 27. Section 1 follows on October 26 to 30 and November 30 to December 4. Section 2 is November 2 to 6 and December 7 to 11. Section 3 is November 9 to 13 and December 14 to 18. Section 4 is November 16 to 20 and December 21 to 24. Leaves must be at the curb before your section's collection week begins, and crews will have few chances to return to a section outside its scheduled dates.
Use paper biodegradable bags only. Stack bags neatly at the curb, not in driveways, and keep them clear of sidewalks and catch basins. Bags with anything other than leaves, or bags left in driveways, will be rejected and left for residents to handle.
Residents on county roads must bag their leaves this year, because Union County has limited disposal space. Those roads are Plainfield Avenue, Mountain Avenue, Horseshoe Road, Springfield Avenue, McMane Avenue, Valley Road/Glenside Avenue, and Diamond Hill Road. The county has not yet announced its pickup schedule, so call the Union County Department of Public Works at 908-789-3660 for updates.
Residents can also drop off bagged leaves at the Berkeley Heights DPW Recycling facility off Berkeley Avenue, next to the Municipal Complex, from 9 a.m. to noon on the first and third Saturdays of November and December.
