The DMK Black Box Theater is a Township of Union arts venue, and it holds Pass The Mic on the third Monday of every month. The theater describes the night as an evening of music, poetry and storytelling, and all types of performers are welcome. A live band plays behind the singers and musicians.
At 6:30 p.m. ET, a theater staff member with a clipboard starts collecting performer names. Performers may not be called in the order they signed up, so the host can shape the evening. Each set runs 3 to 5 minutes. The last performance is at 9:45 p.m. ET because the show ends at 10 p.m. Anyone with a time limit can tell the theater staff or the host.
Singers and musicians should bring sheet music or a chord chart in the right key for the band. Actors, poets and spoken word artists should say whether they need a mic when they arrive. Dancers who need music played should bring it on a thumb drive and arrive at 6:30 p.m. to meet the tech staff.
Tickets cost $5. Questions can go to the DMK Black Box Theater at 908.851.5430. The theater asks everyone to have fun and support their fellow artists.
