ReelAbilities Film Festival at Kean in Union, NJ
North Avenue Academic Building (NAAB) Auditorium · 1000 Morris Ave (at the corner of North Ave), Union, NJ 07083
A love story about autism and friendship. A documentary about disabled victims of the Nazi era. A road trip before spinal surgery. Over three days, the ReelAbilities Film Festival brings stories like these to Kean University, and then invites the audience to talk about them.
Kean Stage presents ReelAbilities from Thursday, October 8, through Saturday, October 10, at the North Avenue Academic Building (NAAB) Auditorium on Kean's Union campus. ReelAbilities is the largest festival in the country dedicated to disability stories and talent. Each of the six screenings ends with a discussion led by disabled actors, advocates, and community members. Union County Life readers can attend in person or stream select programs from home.
Highlights include "Lone Wolves," a romantic comedy drama about autism, friendship, and fertility, on opening night, Thursday, October 8, at 6:30 p.m. "Disposable Humanity," a documentary about disabled victims of the Nazi Aktion T4 program, screens that afternoon at 2:15 p.m. "Heavy Healing" explores music and mental health. The festival closes Saturday, October 10, at 6:30 p.m. with "Espina," about a Venezuelan man who uses a wheelchair and sets out on a journey before spinal surgery. Short film programs run Thursday at 10 a.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m.
