A water exercise class, a quick blood pressure check, and a chance to see what the local Y offers. On Wednesday, October 28, the Gateway Family YMCA invites older adults to try it all for free.
The Gateway Family YMCA’s Elizabeth, Rahway, and Union branches will host Community Open Houses for the 33rd annual National Senior Health & Fitness Day. This year’s theme is “Move a Little. . . Live a Lot.” Union County Life shares the details so older neighbors across the county can join in.
Visitors can swim, join a group exercise class, or try water exercise. Blood pressure self monitoring, health screenings, and health information will also be available. All activities and information are free. For those who can’t get to a branch, a virtual open house with group exercise classes on Zoom is also offered. Organizers say older adults at every fitness level are welcome.
The Y also runs free health programs for the community, including a Blood Pressure Self Monitoring Program, diabetes prevention and management programs, LiveSTRONG at the YMCA, and a Veterans Wellness Initiative.
