Bundle up, climb onto the hay, and end the night by the fire with a cup of hot chocolate. Union County's Hayrides & Campfires return this October at Warinanco Park and the Trailside Nature & Science Center in Mountainside.
The Union County Board of County Commissioners hosts the annual program as a fall evening outdoors for families. Each ticket includes one hayride, entertainment, hot chocolate, and marshmallows. Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair to enjoy the campfire. Union County Life readers looking for a classic fall outing will find five chances to go.
The first hayride is at Warinanco Park on Friday, October 2, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The rest are at Trailside Nature & Science Center, 452 New Providence Road, Mountainside. Sunday, October 4 runs from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, October 9 runs from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday, October 11 runs from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, October 16 runs from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Tickets are $6 for Union County residents and $12 for nonresidents. They must be bought in advance at ucnj.org/ticket, or in person at Trailside (908-789-3670) or Union County Parks Reservations at the Warinanco Sports Center, 1 Park Drive, Roselle (908-527-4900). Tickets will not be sold at the event. Group sales are limited to 15 people, and there are no refunds or exchanges. When you arrive, go to the check in table to trade your ticket for a numbered hayride pass. Hayrides leave about every 20 minutes, first come, first served. Check in before 8 p.m. on Fridays and before 5 p.m. on Sundays.
