Councilman Brandon Bernier Holds 2nd Ward Community Meeting
Union County Life News Desk · Union County Life
ROSELLE, NJ – On Tuesday night, Councilman Brandon Bernier hosted his monthly 2nd Ward Community Meeting at Agape House of Worship Prayer Chapel. State Senator Joe Cryan joined the discussion as well, focusing on statewide issues such as surveillance pricing, gun safety measures, and school funding challenges. Councilman Bernier discussed with the crowd issues pertaining to Roselle such as the budget debate that took place during this week’s council meeting, the reopening of Home Terrace Park and other concerns the audience had. Giving his constituents the chance to ask questions in an informal, respectable way is vitally important, said Bernier, and gives people the chance to have a robust dialogue about the problems facing their community.“It is really an opportunity to have those kinds of conversations in much greater detail than you would at a council meeting,” Bernier told TAPinto Roselle. “A lot of people think the council meeting is time to go back and forth... it is really not intended to be a back and forth. These ward meetings are really where you get the chance to dig into whatever issues are on your mind.”Being born and raised in the borough, Bernier understands the unique community feel that comes from living in Roselle. Roselle is also one of the only boroughs in New Jersey, along with neighboring Roselle Park, that divides its councilmembers by wards, resulting in a small bloc of an electorate.“I think it is good to have ideas bounce off each other,” Bernier said. “It gives us an opportunity to have even a smaller subset of an already fairly small town. You are really focused on that portion of it. It gives you a lot more ability to interact directly with your set of residents and gives them a chance to know you directly and get their answers from you directly.”“I think at the end of the day people just want to hear an honest answer,” Councilman Bernier added.
