Cranford Scouts Make Giving Easy With Drive-Through Food Collection
Union County Life News Desk · Union County Life
CRANFORD, NJ - Donating to a local food drive is getting a little easier this spring, as Cranford scouts bring back a popular “Scouting for Food” effort with a drive-through option designed for busy schedules. On Saturday, May 9, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., residents can drop off donations without leaving their cars at four locations across town: Cranford Family Care, Livingston Avenue School, Brookside Place School, and Orange Avenue School. Scouts from Troops 75 and 80, along with Cub Scout Pack 137 and Girl Scouts of Cranford, will be on hand to collect items curbside. The format is intentional. “We know this is a busy time of year, but we also know how generous the Cranford community can be. Please consider stopping by with a donation between sports events, errands, or while you’re out picking up Mother’s Day gifts,” Erin Muldoon, one of the organizers, told TAPinto Cranford. The drive builds on a successful effort last fall, when local scouts helped more than fill the shelves at Cranford Family Care, which is grateful for the support. “Spring is when we start to see donations slow down, but the need in our community doesn’t,” said Julie Carol, director of Cranford Family Care. “We do our best to fill in the gaps by purchasing food as needed, but with more families turning to CFC for help, we appreciate these food collections. We’re incredibly thankful to the Scouts for organizing this drive and to everyone in Cranford who continues to support our neighbors.”Items most needed include syrup; kids’ snacks such as chips, cookies, crackers, and granola bars; coffee; mayonnaise; oatmeal; sugar; juice or juice boxes; fruit cups; marinara sauce; toilet paper and paper products; hand or bar soap; diapers in sizes 5, 6, and 7; tampons; and cleaning products.
