Dink and Drop: Ways to Play Pickleball in Cranford

UCL Community Desk · Union County Life

CRANFORD, NJ - Pickleball players in Cranford no longer need to plan far in advance or commit to a league to get on the court. With expanded hours, flexible pricing, and multiple drop-in options, the township has made it easier than ever for residents of all skill levels to play.At the Cranford Recreation Center at 375 Centennial Avenue, weekday “daily” pickleball now runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with up to six indoor courts available. Players can choose from monthly memberships, three-month passes for the daily options, or also drop-in rates, making it easy to play regularly or just stop in when time allows.“There are a lot of ways to play pickleball,” said Christian Francisco of Cranford Recreation and Parks.Beyond daytime play, the township offers early morning sessions, evening hours, and weekend opportunities, along with additional court time added as space becomes available and shared online. Drop-in play remains one of the most accessible options, with rates set at $10 for residents and $15 for non-residents, alongside discounted memberships for adults and seniors.“When we are very busy, it would go by rotations and we do offer a challenge court for higher skill players,” said Steve Robertazzi, director of Cranford Recreation and Parks. “If you time it right and come with four, usually in the afternoon, we have open courts and friends can play together.”The structure is designed to keep games moving while accommodating both casual and more competitive players, reinforcing the township’s effort to make the fast-growing sport as accessible as possible. For schedules, updates, and full program details, visit the Cranford Recreation and Parks website.
