New Flavor at Vanilla Bean Creamery Inspired by Trivia Win

Union County Life News Desk · Union County Life

CRANFORD, NJ - A winning night of trivia is turning into a new ice cream flavor in town. CranGPT, the first-place team at the Cranford Fund for Educational Excellence’s (CFEE) 2026 Trivia Night, earned the opportunity to create and name a custom flavor at Vanilla Bean Creamery. That flavor, Blueberry Pi, will debut May 1 as part of the shop’s flavors of the month. The idea for the flavor traces back to a key moment during the competition. “I believe the question was something along the lines of 'what is the highest grossing fruit in New Jersey?' We went back and forth between the blueberry and cranberry, but we remembered that blueberry is the state fruit of NJ so we decided to go with blueberry as our final answer,” said Christine DelRe of CranGPT.“We decided to name the flavor Blueberry Pi, as it is simple and straightforward with what to expect in the flavor, and we felt using ‘Pi’ instead of the traditional ‘pie’ spelling was a great nod towards Trivia Night and the great work by all the volunteers at the CFEE,” DelRe continued, adding that she and the rest of the team—Claire and Ryan Cooper; Jen and Chris Lenza; Christine and Justin Bove; Kate and Brendan Ryan; and Matt DelRe—is looking forward to the May 1 launch. Vanilla Bean Creamery owner Sherri Bogdan said the collaboration came together naturally. “I’ve been looking to do a flavor with blueberry this season, so this was a perfect opportunity when Christine and her team brought the idea to us,” Bogdan said. They landed on a blend of blueberry pie filling with cinnamon crumb streusel folded into vanilla ice cream, and named it Blueberry Pi as a nod to the trivia theme.CFEE’s annual Trivia Night is the organization’s largest fundraiser, supporting grants for Cranford public school educators. The event brings together teams of up to 10 players to compete for prizes, including the chance to create a custom ice cream flavor, while raising funds for classroom innovation and enrichment.
