MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ — For many people, clutter can feel overwhelming—but knowing where to begin is often the hardest part. The Mountainside Public Library is offering residents a chance to tackle that challenge with confidence through an upcoming workshop designed to help simplify spaces and create fresh momentum at home.As part of its New Year, New You programming, the library will host Declutter Like You Are Moving with organizing expert and bestselling author Jamie Novak on Saturday, May 2 at 2 p.m.The free program, open to adults ages 18 and older, will focus on practical decluttering strategies that participants can immediately put into action.According to the event description, attendees will learn where to start, how to decide what to keep, sell, or donate, and ways to simplify without feeling overwhelmed. The session will also include a live decluttering demonstration led by Novak. For many households, clutter is more than a storage issue—it can create stress, make routines harder, and turn everyday spaces into sources of frustration. Programs like this aim to replace that stress with realistic steps and manageable habits. The concept of “decluttering like you are moving” encourages people to evaluate belongings with fresh perspective—asking what truly adds value, what no longer serves a purpose, and what can be passed along to others. The event also reflects the evolving role of public libraries as community hubs for lifelong learning, offering programs that support not only education and culture, but also wellness, productivity, and quality of life.Residents looking for a practical reset this spring may find the workshop to be a timely opportunity to clear space, gain motivation, and learn from an expert in a supportive setting.Registration is available through the library’s website at mountainsidelibrary.org.
