UNION, N.J. — A Union dog is stepping into the spotlight after being selected as one of the winners in the Jersey’s Top Dogs contest, earning a place on new New Jersey Lottery Scratch-Off tickets.Frankie, a 5-year-old standard poodle, earned a spot among the first 50 real dogs to be featured on a New Jersey Lottery Scratch-Offs ticket and one of only 18 recognized as an official “Top Dog.” Selected from thousands of entries submitted across the state, the winners were recognized during a press conference Wednesday in Hoboken announcing the launch of the new “Jersey Dog” Scratch-Offs.Frankie’s owner, Karen Kaufman, said the recognition is both exciting and meaningful.“I always knew Frankie was something special, but seeing him chosen as one of New Jersey’s Top Dogs and featured on a lottery ticket takes it to a whole new level,” Kaufman said. “It’s an incredible honor and such a fun way to celebrate the joy he brings to my life.”Kaufman said Frankie has a natural ability to connect with people.“They love the way he looks and how soft his hair feels. Many people say they’ve never seen a standard poodle in real life,” she said.Whether competing in sports, working as a therapy dog or simply interacting with others, Frankie brings joy to those around him, Kaufman said.“Seeing him selected as one of New Jersey’s Top Dogs and featured on the lottery ticket is just so amazing,” she said. “It’s such a fun and meaningful way to celebrate the bond we all share with our dogs.”The ticket series marks the first time the public has played a direct role in shaping a New Jersey Lottery game. In total, 50 dogs of various breeds, sizes and temperaments will appear on the tickets, with 18 designated as the official "Top Dogs”.
