BERKELEY HEIGHTS, N.J. — Two days after falling in triple overtime, the Governor Livingston boys lacrosse team answered with a statement win, defeating DePaul 12-11 Saturday behind a dominant five-goal, six-point performance from sophomore Andrew Werner.Triple Overtime Heartbreaker — May 7The Highlanders dropped a gut-wrenching 9-8 decision to Newark Academy Thursday evening, falling in triple overtime despite a 24-save effort from goalkeeper Kevin Nasto. For the Highlanders, Alec Novotny led with two goals and an assist, while Cyr Ryan III added two goals. Andrew Werner contributed a goal and two assists, and Will Sicoli chipped in a goal and an assist. Scott McRae and Jake Brosen each added a goal. Joshua Kim won 8 of 20 faceoffs (40 percent) and collected seven ground balls.Werner, Nasto Deliver Saturday — May 9Werner was unstoppable two days later against DePaul, burying five goals and adding an assist for six points — the game's top individual performance. Novotny contributed a goal and three assists, while Scott McRae posted two goals and two assists. Ryan added two goals and an assist, and Will Sicoli and Jack Casalaina each scored a goal with an assist.Nasto made 18 saves in goal to earn the win, and Joshua Kim anchored the faceoff circle, winning 15 of 26 draws (58 percent). While the record remains a challenge, Saturday's performance — coming on the heels of a triple-overtime defeat — showed a team capable of responding under pressure.Gov. Livingston will honor its senior class Wednesday at Snyder Park, with pregame ceremonies beginning at 6:30 p.m. and first draw scheduled for 7 p.m.
