SUMMIT, NJ — In a rivalry that cuts straight through the heart of Summit, Oak Knoll School stunned Kent Place School on Saturday with a four-overtime, 9-8 thriller that felt more like a season-defining moment than a regular-season game. The tension built steadily before erupting into a frantic fourth quarter. Kent Place seized momentum late in the third when junior Kaitlyn Troiano scored, and sophomore Cate Collins extended the lead to two with 7:33 remaining.Oak Knoll answered with urgency. Taylor Martin pulled the Royals within one with 6:35 left, and Notre Dame commit Maris McGinty tied the game at 1:42. Moments later, Lauren Dietrich put Oak Knoll ahead for the first time all day, but the lead did not hold. With just 25 seconds remaining, Collins answered again for Kent Place, forcing a 8-8 tie and sending the game into overtime after a chaotic, back-and-forth finish.Three sudden-death overtime periods followed with no breakthrough, as both teams traded possessions, defensive stands and missed chances under mounting pressure. In the fourth overtime, McGinty finally broke through, scoring the game-winner to seal the victory.McGinty finished with three goals and an assist, while Martin added three goals and Dietrich finished with two goals and an assist. Korryn Peterson also scored, and Genevieve Guenther played a key role on the draw circle, helping Oak Knoll secure critical possessions throughout overtime.
