
Kenilworth's 2026 March & April Hawks of the Month Write-up by Harding Students

KENILWORTH, NJ - The fifth issue of Harding Elementary School's newspaper Let's HAWK About It! was recently published. Seven of the student writers each had their own little feature spotlighting the Novemeber and December Hawks of the month. Pre-K 3 written by Jaxon Capra Our February Hawk of the Month for Pre-K 3 is Cameron Fields! When his name was picked on the wheel, Cameron shared that he felt very excited. When asked what he loves most about spring, he excitedly said, “I like when it gets warm out!” Cameron is especially looking forward to Spring Break so he can spend more time playing outside. He also enjoys watching Bluey, one of his favorite shows. Since this is Cameron’s first year at Harding, I asked him what he enjoys most about school, and he replied, “I really love to read books!” Keep up the amazing work, Cameron—congratulations! Our March Hawk of the Month for Pre-K 3 is Lily Martins! When Lily’s name was picked on the wheel, she said she felt really happy and excited. When asked what she loves most about spring, Lily shared, “I like to go play outside,” which is something a lot of us can agree with! With spring break coming up, Lily said she is looking forward to relaxing inside and watching Bluey. Outside of school, she enjoys spending time playing with her siblings. In the classroom, Lily’s favorite thing to do is learn her ABCs, and she is doing a great job! Congratulations to Lily for being an awesome Hawk of the Month! Pre-K 4 written by Jaxon Capra Our February Hawk of the Month for Pre-K 4 is Mateo Montesano! When asked how he felt when his name was selected on the wheel, Mateo shared that it made him very happy. When I asked what he loves most about spring, he said, “I like when it gets warm out.” With spring break approaching, Mateo is especially excited to attend a Devils hockey game with his family. Outside of school, he enjoys playing with his toys, and in the classroom, he loves working on creative projects. Congratulations, Mateo! Our March Hawk Of The Month for PreK 4 was Ellie Schulien! When asked how she felt when her name was picked on the wheel, she said she was really happy about it. I asked, “ What do you love about Spring?” She answered, “I like that I can go to the beach soon.” Now that spring break is coming up, I asked Ellie what she is looking forward to. Ellie said that she was excited to play outside in her backyard. Outside of school, she likes to play with her toys. The final question I asked was what she likes to do in school. Ellie said she really likes to learn her letters. Congratulations Ellie! Kindergarten written by Victoria Paster In a recent interview with Emma McGill ( a student at Harding Elementary school ), we found a couple of interesting facts about her. First, I asked her how she felt when her name was chosen from the wheel. She responded with “ So happy I was about to cry with joy!” Then we dug a little deeper into her personal life, and I asked what are you looking forward to over spring break? She said, “ I am excited to play, eat chips, and take naps,” which sounds great! Then we asked her what she loves about spring and she told us that “She loves playing outside and it is almost her birthday.” So happy early birthday, Emma! After we asked her what she likes to do outside of school, she said she likes to play with her friends. She told us she loves playing outside and coloring. The last question we asked her was What is your favorite subject? She told us about art because she gets to use her creativity while painting, drawing, and coloring. Congratulations Emma!!!!!! In a recent interview, our March hawk of the month for Kindergarten, Cesar Baustista, we found some facts about his life. First, we asked him, “How did you feel when your name got picked from the wheel?” He told us that he felt happy and proud of his achievement. The next question we asked him was, “What do you love about the spring?” He said he loves seeing all the animals come out from hibernation. Then we asked, “What did you do over spring break?” That's when he said he went to the park with his sister. After we asked, “What do you like doing in your free time?” He excitedly told me he loves doing word searches and playing outside. Last, we asked him, “ What is your favorite subject?” And he said that he really enjoys math. Congrats Cesar Baustista. First Grade written by Camila Garcia This month, first-grader Sarah Scuderi won the Hawk of the Month award! We asked her a couple of questions to interview her. “How did you feel when your name was chosen from the wheel?” We asked her. She replied, “ I felt happy and proud of myself.” “What do you love about spring?” We then asked her. “I like that now it’s going to be warm, and I like the flowers.” She replied. When we asked her what she’s looking forward to over spring break, she said that she’s excited to go to the park. “What do you enjoy doing outside of school?” We asked. “I like to play tag with my sister.” She answered. And finally, we asked her what her favorite subject was, and she responded with, “I like math and reading.” Congrats, Sarah, and enjoy your prize! Our 1st-grade March Hawk of the Month is Edwyn Mexica! We asked him a couple of questions to celebrate. First, we asked him how he felt, and he replied with, “I was happy and proud of myself.” Next, I asked him, “What do you love about spring?” He replied with, “To play soccer and the weather.” “What did you do during spring break?” I asked him. “I played tag with my cousin.” He said. I then asked him what he enjoys doing outside of school, and he said that he plays sports like soccer. Finally, I asked him what his favorite subject was, and he replied, “Math is my favorite.” Congrats Edwyn! Second Grade written by Alessia Rizzo Our February Hawk of the Month Winner from Second Grade was Dominick Costa. When I asked him, “How did he feel when his name was chosen from the wheel?”, he said he felt “good and proud of himself.” Then I asked him, “What do you love about Spring?” He said, “ he gets to do baseball in the spring with his friends”. I also asked him, “What are you looking forward to in Spring Break?”, and he replied with, “Getting to go on vacation with my cousin Alessia”. Next, I asked him, “What do you enjoy outside of school?”, and he said, “Hanging out and playing with his friends and also doing bear wrestling.” Lastly, I asked him, “What is your favorite subject?” and he said, “Gym.” Congratulations, Dominick! Our March Hawk of the Month Winner from Second Grade was Bleden Ponce. When I asked him, “How did he feel when his name was chosen from the wheel?”, he said he felt “happy.” Then I asked him, “What do you love about Spring?” He said, “ It’s going to be hot soon, not cold anymore.” I also asked him, “What are you looking forward to during Spring Break?” and he replied with, “Getting to draw and color and play on his electronics.” Next, I asked him, “What do you enjoy outside of school?”, and he said, “He enjoys coloring and drawing with his friends, and also playing tag on the playground with his friends.” Lastly, I asked him, “What’s your favorite subject?” and he said, “Gym.” Congratulations, Bleden! Third Grade written by Madison Geowel Buere The third grade February Hawk of the month was Addison Casale from Mrs. Loconte’s class. We first asked her how she felt when her name was chosen on the wheel. She told us she felt really excited and good. We asked her what she loves about spring. She said she loves chilling at home during spring break. When we asked her what she was looking forward to during spring break, she said she was looking forward to going to spring break. Something she enjoys doing outside of school is watching TV and eating snacks on the couch. Lastly, we asked her what her favorite subjects are, and she said reading and math. Congratulations Addison! The third grade March Hawk of the month was Alizeah Reyes from Mrs.DiNizo’s class. We first asked her how she felt when her name was chosen on the wheel. She said she was excited and nervous because it was her first time getting chosen. We asked her what she loves about the spring season. She said that she loves seeing all the flowers. We asked her what she was looking forward to during spring break. She said that she was looking forward to going to the park and having a playdate with her friend. Something she enjoys outside of school is hanging out with her friends. Lastly, we asked her what her favorite subjects are. She said they were Science, Math, Art, Gym, STEM, and Music. Congratulations Alizeah! Fourth Grade written by Matthew Ramirez The Fourth grade winner for hawk of the month for February is Abigail Hidalgo. We interviewed her on how she felt, how she thinks she won and what her favorite subjects and thighs to do outside of school! First we asked her how she felt when she got chosen for hawk of the month SHe responded. “Excited and proud of herself”. Next we asked what she loves about the spring. She responded “Finally get to spend time with her family”. Then we asked what she was looking forward to over spring break and she responded. “I am excited to go to the playground.” Finally, we asked her what her favorite subject was and she responded. “Math and science”. Congrats to Abigail Hidalgo! Congrats to Jayden Membrano for winning Hawk of the Month. We interviewed him and here is the first question! First we asked him what he felt like once he won he responded “I was very happy and he always wanted to be hawk of the month!” Then we asked what he was doing for spring break and he responded. “Drive to Florida and visit Disney and Universal!” Then we asked what he does out of school. He responded. “I enjoy playing with my dogs and watching TV and Video Games”. Lastly we asked him what his favorite subject is and he responded with lunch and gym. Congratulations Jayden! Fifth Grade written by Ekamjot Singh The 5th-grade Hawk of the Month for February is Jaydian Diaz. He has demonstrated all the hawk qualities we have gone over at the assemblies and exceeded expectations in each one of his classes. Jaydia said that he was happy and surprised when his name was selected from the wheel. Outside of school, he says he enjoys riding his bike around the neighborhood and down the Boulevard. Another question we had for him was what his favorite thing about spring was. He says that he likes how it's finally warm again after a cold winter. He also likes that we finally get outdoor recess again after being in the auditorium all month. Over spring break, he looks forward to going on vacation with his family and relaxing at home. And lastly, he says his favorite subject in school is math. Congratulations to Jaydian Diaz for being a great student and working to achieve his goals. The March 5th-grade Hawk of the Month is Gianna Ramos in Mrs.Decavalles’ class. This means she has recently been selected by some of her teachers who have seen her continuing to work hard in class. Along with this, we asked her a few questions to learn more about her! First, we asked, “ How did you feel when your name was selected on the spinning wheel?” She replied with happiness and excitement. She said outside of school, she enjoys playing outside and being with her friends. Her favorite thing about the spring season is the warm weather after a cold, long winter. Over the spring break, she enjoyed relaxing at home, and lastly, her favorite subject is social studies. Congratulations to Gianna Ramos for winning HOTM! Congratulations to all the Harding Hawks!
