KENILWORTH, NJ - The Kenilworth Police Department recently posted the following announcement on their social media page.On May 4, 2026, at approximately 3:00 p.m., while assigned to a school safety foot post at Harding School, Officers Dominick Riccelli and Michael Cascarano observed a gray Jeep Commander being operated erratically on the Boulevard. The vehicle entered the school drop-off area at a high rate of speed in an attempt to pass slower-moving traffic directly in front of the school during dismissal, when a large number of parents and children were present.Recognizing the immediate danger to the public, both officers quickly responded and initiated a motor vehicle stop to prevent further risk. The vehicle was ultimately stopped in the area of Boulevard and Wilshire Drive.Following a brief investigation, a K-9 unit from the Union County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, leading to a search of the vehicle. During the search, officers recovered a loaded Glock 34, 9mm handgun from the center console. The driver, identified as Jahmir Howard, age 21, of Irvington, New Jersey, did not possess a permit to carry the firearm.Further investigation revealed that the firearm had been reported stolen out of North Carolina in 2018. The weapon was loaded with hollow-point ammunition.Howard was subsequently charged with multiple weapons offenses and remanded to the Union County Jail pending a detention hearing.
