Learning about Venger Drawing at Clark Preschool

Union County Life News Desk · Union County Life

CLARK, NJ — Ms. Rebecca DePreta’s class in the Clark Preschool Program is learning all about venger drawing!Venger drawing is a part of the Tools of the Mind curriculum which focuses on shape recognition, fine motor skills, and creativity. Children receive a sheet with a pre-printed geometric shape, which they must incorporate into a new creative drawing. First, the class worked on a circle. They discussed what in the world around us is shaped like a circle. After discussing as a large group, students broke off into two small groups and each student chose what they would like to make their circle into. Students had ideas like the sun, a pizza pie, a person, and a soccer ball. The following week, the class did the same thing but with a square! The students brainstormed ideas about turningthe square into a robot, a cake, a racetrack, and a castle. This activity promotes self-regulation skills as the students have to learn to plan their ideas before they execute them.[Don’t miss any TAPinto Clark news.
