Union County Life News Desk · Union County Life
Linden, NJ — Linden artist, Donavin Garcia, recently teamed up with the Linden FMBA to share a special logo he designed in honor of Autism Awareness Month. His design was featured on t-shirts for their members. This honor reflects his personal journey and artistic talent.Donavin’s story began with medical complications that led to an autism diagnosis in 2024. For the first eight years of his life, he did not speak. With family support and speech therapists, he gradually found his voice. During those quiet years, during those quiet years, he found his love for drawing — an outlet that became both comfort and passion. After graduation from high school, Donavin completed some transition to adulthood programs to help with his transition to adulthood. He has found joy in his community and a part-time job.Donavin was recently surprised when the Linden FMBA asked him to design their official autism awareness T-shirt for their members. Along with his family, he thanks Mayor Derek Armstead, Fire Chief Wiliam Hasko, and Linden’s FMBA for this opportunity. He gives special thanks to Captain Michael Cassidy and Firefighter Danny Diaz for teaching him how the fire trucks operate and for letting him try on the heavy firefighter gear."Since I express myself through drawing, being on the spectrum means that I learn at my own pace. While I sometimes struggle with comprehension, I always strive to connect with others.” “We are capable, intelligent people, and like everyone else, we simply want to be accepted for who we truly are." said Donavin Garcia[Don’t miss any TAPinto Linden news.
