Linden Firefighter Lewis Haskell Added to National Fallen Firefighters Memorial

UCL Community Desk · Union County Life

Linden, NJ — Linden Firefighter Lewis Haskell was finally honored at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial after his 1982 on-duty heart attack. He will be among the Fire Heroes added to the National Memorial, giving this year’s observance special significance to the Linden Fire Department and the City of Linden community. Firefighter Haskell suffered a heart attack while operating on the fire ground at a structure fire on the corner of Lindegar St. and W. Elizabeth Ave. on November 8, 1982. Two months later, while still recuperating, Firefighter Haskell suffered a fatal heart attack at home. The National Memorial was built in 1981. Unfortunately, the Linden Fire Department never submitted an application for him to be added to the National Memorial. But thanks to the work of Deputy Chief Carl Tattoli, retired Deputy Chief Kevin Brady and retired Captain Brian Pericone, who made a submission to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, Firefighter Haskell finally received the recognition he so deserved. Fire Chief William Hasko Jr. reflected and shared, This past weekend I had the honor of attending the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland. "It was particularly heartfelt, because I had the privilege of being the escort for the family of Linden Fire Department Firefighter Lewis Haskell, who was one of the Fire Heroes added to the National Memorial," said Hasko.https://weekend.firehero.org/https://www.firehero.org/fallen-firefighter/lewis-h-haskell/[Don’t miss any TAPinto Linden news.
