New Camera System Reduces Illegal Dumping Incidents at Springfield Recycling Center

Union County Life News Desk · Union County Life

SPRINGFIELD, NJ — Illegal dumping at the Springfield Recycling Center has dropped sharply thanks to a new camera enforcement system, administrator John Bussiculo reported during the April 28 Township Committee meeting.“The new camera system has reduced illegal dumping tremendously up at the recycling center,” Bussiculo said. He credited the enforcement efforts of Detective Jim Mirabile, noting, “Our detective… has been issuing summonses left and right. We’ve taken them to court and, hopefully, it’s sending a message.”Bussiculo added that the township hopes the increased enforcement will deter future violations. “Don’t dump things you shouldn’t be dumping up there,” he said. “You get fined once, I think it’s going to stop most people.”Officials emphasized that the camera system has already proven to be a cost‑effective tool for maintaining order at the facility and reducing cleanup burdens on DPW staff.
