NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – The New Providence Education Foundation (NPEF) presented a check totaling $69,833 to the school district at the Thursday, April 30 Board of Education (BOE) meeting. Vice President of the NPEF Kelly Szeto along with NPEF Board Members Michelle Darling, Maria Hanson and Ana Roth attended the meeting to deliver the check. The NPEF works directly with the school district to fund teacher-initiated programs that are not covered in the budget. Each grant request comes directly from the teachers and staff for a program that they feel will enhance the classroom experience for students. This year the foundation received a wide range of grant applications across all schools and grade levels. It was able to fund over 90% of them, Szeto said. “Next year we hope to raise even more money,” she added. The foundation works with local business, or as the NPEF calls them corporate sponsors. The NPEF raises funds by hosting various events throughout the year. Szeto expressed thefoundation’s gratitude to the community for their support. All money raised will go directly back to the schools, she said. It is wonderful to work with this group of volunteers who work very hard to raise funds that go directly to the classrooms, Superintendent Lauren Zirpoli said.
