Union County Life News Desk · Union County Life

PLAINFIELD, NJ — Shortly before 6pm on Tuesday, the Plainfield Fire Department responded to a mulch fire outside the large apartment complex on the former Muhlenberg site.Residents on the scene reported low visibility in the building's parking lot and up to a block away before firefighters were able to stop the fire. The mulch was reportedly recently replaced. At around 6:15, TAPinto Plainfield observed firefighters spraying the mulch repeatedly to ensure that the fire was out. In residential and commercial properties, mulch fires usually start when cigarettes or other smoking materials are placed on the mulch, which is combustible. There are no reported injuries, and residents did not have to leave the apartment building.
