
Pre-Dawn Break-In Hits Springfield Avenue Business

SUMMIT, NJ — A burglar shattered the quiet of Springfield Avenue early Friday morning, breaking into a local business and making off with a nearly $5,000 electric bicycle in under a minute, according to Summit Police.Officers were dispatched at approximately 3:04 a.m. on May 1 to the 300 block of Springfield Avenue after a commercial burglar alarm was triggered. When police arrived, they found the front door ajar, glass shattered on the ground, and the alarm still blaring into the early morning.A search of the building and surrounding area turned up no suspect.An on-scene investigation later determined the break-in happened just minutes earlier, around 2:58 a.m. Surveillance shows the individual entering the store, grabbing a bicycle, and leaving within about a minute.Stolen was a light blue Specialized Vado 5.0 electric bicycle valued at $4,999.99.Police are asking anyone who may have surveillance footage or information related to the incident to contact the Summit Police Department at 908-273-0051.
