ROSELLE, NJ – With Mother’s Day just a few hours away, Roselle celebrated a little early as the Anthony Almafe Center played host to the annual Mother’s Day Luncheon on Saturday afternoon. The event, organized by the Roselle Parks and Recreation Department, honored the legacy of mothers and was used to celebrate community members that don’t get praised as often as they should.“Mother’s Day is a big day for us,” Mayor Donald Shaw said. “It is important to celebrate the mothers and the mothers of our community. They don’t often get celebrated throughout the course of the year. This pre-Mother's Day brunch that we do every year is something special for us. They deserve it.”The luncheon included tea and a lunch buffet with dessert served at the end of the event with several local performers as part of the festivities. There was maternal-themed poetry read, a live DJ, and the debut of the Roselle Recreation Youth Dancers for entertainment during the Mother’s Day celebration.“We have so many hidden gems that just need to be tapped into,” Mayor Shaw stated. “They need to know that our doors are open, and we will give them a platform to perform for our community.”Saturday’s event was an encapsulation of the tight-knit community that is present throughout Roselle. There were members of Roselle’s recreation department, along with local government personnel, and a variety of volunteers from across Union County.“We were able to pull this together and reach out to our network of people,” Roselle Parks and Recreation Director D’Nean Wynn noted. “That is important. You have to establish a network of people that you can call on for certain events. You know where people fit in and today was just perfect. This is what it is all about.”
