School No. 8 — Families Multiply the Fun at ST Math Night
Union County Life News Desk · Union County Life
LINDEN PUBLIC SCHOOLS, NJ — School No. 8 turned math into a shared family experience on April 29, hosting its ST Math Family Math Night, sponsored by Phillips 66. Richard S. Molinaro, director of mathematics, said the after-school event was designed to bring classrooms and living rooms closer together by introducing families to the ST Math program, a visual, puzzle-based platform that builds problem-solving skills through interactive learning. Students and parents worked side by side at activity stations, tackling math challenges while teachers and staff provided guidance and support. Among those participating was Board of Education member Kimberly Ullisse, who attended with her children and joined families in the hands-on activities, reflecting the event’s strong community engagement. The evening emphasized collaboration and confidence, with families receiving take-home materials, math games, and strategies to continue learning beyond the classroom. Organizers said the hands-on approach helps demystify math and encourages positive attitudes toward the subject. Backed by Phillips 66, the event also underscored the importance of community partnerships in expanding STEM opportunities. By the night’s end, families left not only with new skills, but with renewed confidence in supporting their children’s academic journey.
