
Summit To Hold Annual Memorial Day Parade And Ceremony May 25

SUMMIT, NJ — The City of Summit will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade and ceremony on Monday, May 25, honoring the men and women who lost their lives while serving in the U.S. military.The parade is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at 25 Deforest Ave. and will proceed through downtown Summit to the Village Green. Members of American Legion Post 322 will lead the procession alongside veterans, civic groups, school organizations and public safety agencies.Participants are expected to include the Summit High School Marching Band, Summit Police Department, Summit Fire Department, the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad and local scout troops.Residents are encouraged to line Deforest Avenue, Beechwood Road, Union Place and Maple Street to watch the parade. Veterans along the route will distribute American flags to spectators.Following the parade, a ceremony on the Village Green will feature remarks from Elizabeth Fagan, student readings, a rifle salute, wreath-laying ceremony and a performance of Taps. Veterans attending the ceremony will receive a commemorative 2026 coin recognizing their service.The Summit Elks Lodge and Summit PAL will provide free hot dogs and drinks following the ceremony.More information is available through Summit Community Programs.
