UNION, N.J. — The Township of Union hosted its fourth annual Asian American/Pacific Islander (AAPI) Festival on Saturday, drawing a large crowd to Stuyvesant Avenue for an afternoon of cultural celebration, live performances and local cuisine. The event, held in recognition of Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month, featured a wide range of activities, including music, traditional and modern performances, food vendors and interactive experiences for attendees of all ages.“As we come together to celebrate AAPI Heritage Month, we embrace this year’s theme: ‘Power in Unity: Strengthening Communities Together'. We honor the vibrant cultures, flavors and rhythms that make our communities unique,” said Union Mayor Patricia Guerra-Frazier. “By sharing our stories, building bridges, and fostering a spirit of resilience and belonging, we strengthen the bonds that unite us.”Among the highlights were performances by K-Pop Demon Hunters/Huntrix, a Samurai Interactive Bootcamp and a spinning plates act by a juggling performer, all of which drew enthusiastic crowds throughout the afternoon.Organizers emphasized the importance of showcasing local businesses and cultural contributions within the community.“Supporting AAPI-owned businesses for this great annual event made for a perfect afternoon of celebration,” said Antonio Dei Medici, executive director of the Union Center Special Improvement District. “Everything from the food, music and culture was a win for all Union residents who attended. Great work by everyone involved.”Steven Le, one of the event organizers, said the festival serves as both a celebration and a reflection of the township’s diversity.“Today is a celebration of the many AAPI cultures that contribute, shape and evolve American culture, and they're a vital part of our local community,” Le said. “From family-owned restaurants to small business owners, AAPI residents are woven into the fabric of what makes the Township of Union strong. This event is our way to celebrate progress and how diversity enriches the Township of Union and America as a whole.”Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month, observed each May, recognizes the history, culture and contributions of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States.
