UNION, N.J. — Older adults in Union took part Monday in a Baton Flow and Strengthening Workshop designed to promote movement, coordination and social engagement at the Union Senior Center. The session was led by Nicole Marie Placca of Diamondettes Baton & Dance LLC and featured guided exercises incorporating baton movement and light fitness activities.“Today’s Baton Workshop was truly inspiring for our members, filling the room with energy, laughter, movement, and a strong sense of community from beginning to end,” said Mariateresa Terrezza, supervisor of the Union Senior Center.Terrezza said the workshop created an uplifting atmosphere that encouraged participation from attendees of all physical ability levels.“The movements were easy to follow, yet offered a powerful way for the participants to stay active, engaged, and motivated,” she said. “The baton added a fun, rhythmic element that kept the class lively while also supporting coordination in a natural and enjoyable way. Even those who came in planning to ‘take it easy’ found themselves fully drawn into the experience.”According to Terrezza, the class emphasized inclusivity by allowing participants to engage at their own pace, whether seated or standing.“There was no pressure — only encouragement, patience, and constant smiles shared throughout the room,” she said.Terrezza added that the workshop has evolved beyond a traditional exercise class.“This workshop continues to be much more than a fitness class — it is an energizing, welcoming experience where seniors feel supported, uplifted, and truly connected,” she said.
