Two Sisters, Two Mediums, One Vision: Union Art Gallery Opens "Canvas & Thread" on July 16
Art has a way of revealing what words cannot. On July 16, the Union Art Gallery will open Canvas & Thread — an exhibit that puts that idea to the test through the work of two sisters who arrived at the same themes by completely different roads.
One paints. The other works in thread. Together, they've built something that asks you to look closely at how meaning moves between materials.
The opening reception begins at 6 p.m. at the Union Arts Center, 1980 Morris Avenue, Union Township. Admission is free and open to the public.
What makes this exhibit different
What sets Canvas & Thread apart isn't just the work itself — it's the conversation happening between the two artists. Shared memory, shared language, different hands. The exhibit explores what happens when siblings who grew up seeing the same world choose to render it in completely different ways.
Thread art isn't embroidery. It's texture, dimension, and tension — color built through fiber rather than pigment. Placed alongside painted canvas, the contrast becomes part of the meaning. You start noticing what each medium can hold that the other cannot.
The Union Art Gallery is curated by Directing Curator Leslie Williams Jenkins. For more information, contact the gallery at artgallery@uniontownship.com or follow @TwpUnionGallery on social media.
