NJ Sharing Network 5K Draws Thousands to New Providence

Thousands of people filled New Providence on June 7 to walk, run, and remember at the NJ Sharing Network's annual 5K Celebration of Life — an event that has become one of New Jersey's most recognized gatherings in support of organ and tissue donation.

Union County Life covered the event, which brought together donor families, transplant recipients, living donors, volunteers, and advocates at what organizers described as a powerful annual reunion of people whose lives have been shaped by the decision to give.

The walk and USA Track and Field-sanctioned race, presented by MTF Biologics, has raised more than $14 million for the Sharing Network Foundation since it launched in 2011. Proceeds go toward clinical innovation, family services, and public education tied to organ and tissue donation.

This year's theme was "Together, We Can!" NJ Sharing Network President and CEO Carolyn M. Welsh addressed the crowd and pointed to a milestone reached in 2025: New Jersey donors and their families made possible 2,026 organ, eye and tissue gifts — the highest number in state history.

"That milestone is about far more than numbers," Welsh said. "It's about more birthdays, more anniversaries, more graduations, and more moments with the people we love most."

The need, however, remains urgent. More than 100,000 Americans are currently awaiting a lifesaving organ transplant, including nearly 4,000 New Jersey residents.

Among those honored at the event was Conor McLoughlin of Hillsborough, whose story drew participants to Team Conor. McLoughlin's decision to become a donor resulted in five lives saved.

For those inspired to act, the NJ Sharing Network encourages New Jersey residents to register as donors at NJSharingNetwork.org.
