Scotch Plains Marks America's 250th With Two-Day Revolution 250 Celebration June 26–27

Scotch Plains will hold a free two-day public celebration honoring America's 250th anniversary on Friday, June 26, and Saturday, June 27, Mayor Josh Losardo announced June 19.

Both days are open to all residents at no cost.

Day One: Downtown Scotch Plains, June 26, 4:30–7:30 p.m.

The first event begins at Scotch Plains Baptist Church, 333 Park Ave., with a ceremony honoring Revolutionary War patriots and soldiers buried on the grounds.

From there, actors portraying General George Washington and Comte de Rochambeau will arrive on horseback in front of Scotch Plains Town Hall for the opening of a time capsule sealed in 1984 — during the Township's 300th anniversary celebration.

After the ceremony, the gathering moves to the Alan M. Augustine Village Green, where the Stage House Tavern will provide food and local historic organizations will run activities. The Nettingham Middle School Jazz Ensemble is scheduled to perform.

Day Two: Shady Rest Country Club, June 27, 5–10 p.m.

The second day moves to Shady Rest Country Club at 820 Jerusalem Road. Live music sponsored by Preserve Shady Rest, food trucks, and a fireworks display are planned. Fireworks begin at sundown.

The celebration is supported by event sponsors, the Union County Board of County Commissioners, and the RevolutionNJ Community.
