Summit Community Night Returns to Village Green July 13

On Monday evening, July 13, neighbors across Summit will gather on the Village Green for the return of Community Night, an annual tradition that pairs live music with a chance to meet the people behind the town's nonprofit groups.

Union County Life has learned that this year's lineup includes a strong civic component. Local nonprofits are invited to set up tables on the Green starting as early as 5 p.m., with everything ready to go by 5:45 p.m. The public will be welcomed to browse those tables beginning at 6:30 p.m., before the band Element K takes the stage at 7 p.m. as part of the city's Hot Summer Nights concert series.

For organizations that want to participate, the rules are straightforward. Each group gets one table, no larger than eight feet, or a pop-up tent no bigger than ten feet by ten feet. Groups can hand out literature and giveaways, but direct fundraising is not allowed on site. Interested organizations need to RSVP through the city's Civic Rec website ahead of time.

Residents who turn out will find a relaxed evening on the Green, the kind where kids run between blankets and neighbors stop to ask a question or two at a nonprofit table before settling in for the concert. It is a small window for local groups to put a face to their mission, and for residents to find out what is happening in their own backyard.

Anyone with questions about setting up a table can reach David Guida in the city's Department of Community Programs at dguidajr@cityofsummit.org or 908-277-2932.
