Canadian Wildfires Causing Haze, Smoky Odor in Union County
Maria Torres · Union County Life
Haze and the odor of smoke in the area are due to ongoing Canadian wildfires, according to an alert sent by Union County Wednesday evening. "Smoke from Canadian wildfires is expected to reach New Jersey later this evening, affecting our air quality. Sensitive individuals should limit time spent outdoors and avoid strenuous activity," Gov. Mikie Sherrill said in a statement.
The National Weather Service has issued an Air Quality Alert for Union, Bergen, Passaic, Hudson and Essex counties through midnight on Thursday, July 16. The weather service warned that fine particulates in the affected region may reach or exceed unhealthy standards.
