Fanwood is lowering speed limits and changing traffic patterns on several streets across the borough. Union County Life is tracking the changes as they move through the borough's review process.

The speed limit on LaGrande Avenue will drop to 25 mph.

Martine Avenue will see three separate reductions. Speeds will fall from 40 mph to 35 mph in certain sections, from 35 mph to 30 mph in others, and from 35 mph to 25 mph in a third stretch.

Parking will no longer be allowed on the west side of Hunter Avenue between Midway Avenue and Madison Avenue.

Right turns from Terrill Road onto Paterson Road and Stewart Place will be prohibited during the morning rush hour.

Drivers on Trenton Avenue will no longer be able to turn southbound onto South Martine Avenue during school arrival and dismissal times.

Fanwood Chief Law Enforcement Officer Lt. Dan Kranz said the changes target school zones and the downtown area, and are intended to help prevent collisions. Kranz said the goal is to make the whole borough safer.

Councilwoman Erin McElroy, who serves as police commissioner, said the changes came out of a committee formed specifically to address traffic concerns in Fanwood. McElroy credited Sgt. Daniel Piccola and Lt. Kranz for their work on pedestrian and traffic safety.
