RAHWAY, NJ — Union County is holding one scrap metal recycling event today, Thursday, July 2, with two more recycling events set for later in the month in Rahway.

Scrap metal drop-off today and July 18

The scrap metal recycling drop-off runs today, July 2, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Rahway River Park service yard, located at 3 Parkway Drive across from the swimming pool. A second scrap metal date follows on Saturday, July 18, at the same hours and location.

Paper shredding set for July 9

A separate paper shredding event is scheduled for Thursday, July 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., also at the Rahway River Park service yard. Both programs are free and open to all Union County residents, regardless of home municipality.

What's accepted

Accepted scrap metal items include refrigerators, stoves, washers and dryers, air conditioners, bicycles, metal cabinets, fencing, gutters, and other metal household goods. Refrigerators and freezers must have their doors removed before drop off.

The paper shredding event accepts personal and sensitive documents only, such as legal, medical, and financial records. Businesses are not permitted to participate. Bindings and large plastic or metal clips must be removed beforehand, though staples are allowed. Shredded, damp, or wet paper will not be accepted.
