Clark's CVES Brought Ambulances and Answers to National Night Out

Maria Torres · Union County Life

On August 4, 2026, the Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad turned National Night Out into a hands-on community learning opportunity. CVES members set up a display featuring stretchers and power stretchers, parked an ambulance for residents to examine, and invited people to climb inside and explore. It was an accessible, engaging introduction to emergency response for neighbors of all ages.

Ambulance Tours and Demonstrations

EMT Ainsley Barr walked residents through what CVES does and demonstrated the ambulance's equipment and capabilities. EMT Sophia Downing showed how a patient is secured for transport, explaining the practical procedures that keep patients safe during emergency transport. Cadet Saaya Kadakia participated alongside the EMTs, representing the next generation of emergency responders in Clark.

CVES President Gennaro, an EMT himself, and member Mike Carrig were also on hand to engage with the community. The squad distributed coloring books at the event, making the experience engaging for younger attendees.

Community and Government Support

Several Clark officials attended the event, demonstrating civic investment in the squad's work. Mayor Albanese, Councilman Brian Toal, Councilman O'Connor, and Trustee Laurie were present. CPD Dispatcher Wakstein attended with his daughter, showing how emergency services work together as a community network.

Future EMT Antonio also participated, illustrating the ongoing recruitment and training pipeline for emergency response in Clark.

Building Community Connection

National Night Out provides an annual opportunity for residents to meet local emergency responders and learn about the services that protect their community.
