Summit Soaked Saturday; Sunday Watch Party Still On

About 1.6 inches of rain fell on Summit in a six-hour period by mid-afternoon Saturday, July 19, as storms swept through Union County. The National Weather Service issued a Flood Watch for Union County, and residents were urged to avoid driving through flooded roadways and to use caution during the heavy rain.

The Summit Family Aquatic Center and the Summit Municipal Golf Course were both closed Saturday due to the weather.

Friday brought its own challenges — smoky skies and poor air quality tied to Canadian wildfires.

Sunday, July 20, is forecast to bring sunshine, lower humidity, and improving air quality. That sets the stage for the Downtown Summit FIFA World Cup Final Watch Party, scheduled from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Bank Street parking lot. The free event will feature a live broadcast of the FIFA World Cup Final on a giant LED screen, food vendors, a beer and wine garden, family-friendly activities, and the FIFA Mobile Tour Bus.
