Clark Marks Patriot Day at James A. Nelson Memorial Park Sept. 11

Maria Torres · Union County Life

Clark Township invites the local community to gather in reflection and solidarity for a US Patriot Day ceremony on Friday, September 11, 2026. The memorial event will begin promptly at 8:45 a.m. at James A. Nelson Memorial Park, located at the intersection of Grand Street and Broadway.

The park is named in honor of Port Authority Police Officer James A. Nelson, a Clark resident who tragically lost his life while rescuing others during the September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center. This annual ceremony serves as a dedicated space to remember Officer Nelson, the victims of the attacks, and the enduring strength of the community.

In an official statement, Clark Township emphasized the lasting impact of that day:

"[James A. Nelson's] sacrifice, and that of so many others, reminds us of the courage, unity, and resilience that carried our nation through its darkest hours."

Township officials are strongly encouraging residents to attend and bring along their families, friends, and neighbors to participate in the collective tribute.

"We invite all residents to join us in reflection and solidarity," the announcement reads. "Please bring your family and neighbors; your presence will make this tribute even more meaningful."
