Work at Oakland Park in Springfield moved closer to completion during the week of August 29, 2026. According to an update from Springfield Township Committeeman Chris Capodice, significant progress has been made on plantings, hardscape installation, and electrical infrastructure.
New plantings were added throughout the site, including column oaks along the rear border, landscaping beds along Oakland Avenue, a flowering dogwood in the center planter, and dwarf evergreens expected to grow to 4 or 5 feet. The park's hardscape is now in place, and a newly installed Oakland Park entrance sign marks the main gateway to the renovated facility.
Crews began work on table footings and electrical connections that will supply lighting and power at each table. These utility infrastructure improvements will enable evening use and enhance visitor experience at the park.
Additional finishing items still to come include the sprinkler system, sod, mulch, and remaining plants and flowers. These final components will complete the renovation and prepare Oakland Park for full community use.
