Kenilworth Public Library Celebrates Library Card Sign-Up Month 2026

Library card sign-up month is celebrated every September to encourage individuals, especially children, to obtain a library card. The Kenilworth Public Library offers an opportunity for parents to participate in their children's reading experiences and reinforce the message that reading is important.

With a library card, cardholders receive free access to books in print and digital formats, audiobooks, digital and print magazines, video games, streaming music and video, laptop computers, and free museum passes. Through its website at www.kenilworthlibrary.org, the library provides access to its online catalog, allowing cardholders to check the library's holdings and place reserves on items from home. The website also provides access to online databases which can be accessed remotely.

The library's full schedule of activities and special programs can be found on the website. Children's programs include Lap Sit, Toddler Time, PJ story time, Lego, Bingo, Fun Friday Craft, musical performances, and occasional visits by live animals with their handlers. Activities for adults include the fiber arts club Yarnies, the paper crafting group Paper Pals, Spin-A-Yarn, as well as occasional musical and theatrical programs. Up-to-date information is available at www.facebook.org/kenilworth.public.library.

To apply for a free library card, applicants must present a current driver's license or other documentation with proof of residency such as a rental agreement or utility bill including the applicant's name and home address. For children under age 18, a parent or legal guardian must accompany the child and present identification. Anyone not residing in Kenilworth, but who either works or goes to school within the borough, is eligible for library borrowing privileges for physical materials.

Visitors are encouraged to come to the children's room and sign up for a library card or show one they already have and sign the library card wall of fame. The Kenilworth Public Library is located at 548 Boulevard.
