Maria Torres · Union County Life

New Providence High School sophomore Libby Knight has verbally committed to continue her academic and athletic career at Rutgers University. The Class of 2028 student athlete announced her collegiate destination on social media on September 5, 2026.

The Big Ten commitment caps a month of major milestones for the local attacker. USA Lacrosse officially selected Knight to the 24-player roster for the 2026 U.S. Girls' U17 Youth National Lacrosse Team following a multi-stage selection process that concluded with a national training combine.

During the recent spring season, Knight emerged as one of the most prolific offensive players in the state. Union County Life tracked her varsity production, which totaled 84 goals and 34 assists for 118 points. Her New Providence teammate Addison Fitzgerald also delivered an elite offensive campaign, finishing with 87 goals and 122 total points. National scouting services like Prep Girls Lacrosse currently rank Knight as the number 62 overall recruit across the country for her graduating class. Knight will first debut on the international stage with the national team at the upcoming Brogden Cup before eventually joining a Rutgers program led by head coach Melissa Lehman, who guided the Scarlet Knights to 11 wins and a national ranking last season.
