Oakland Park in Springfield Nears Completion With New Walkways, Lighting and Wi-Fi
Maria Torres · Union County Life
Oakland Park in Springfield is nearing completion with a range of new amenities designed to serve residents and community groups, Township Administrator John Bussiculo announced at the Springfield Township Committee meeting on August 18. The project has been long anticipated and represents a significant upgrade to the park's infrastructure and usability.
Bussiculo presented before-and-after photos showing the transformation. The completed park will feature new sidewalks, seating walls, planters, sprinkler systems, LED lighting, and Wi-Fi access throughout the grounds. The township is also planning an entrance arch to complete the redesigned aesthetic.
The contractor targeted an August 31, 2026 completion date, with Bussiculo noting that final installations were underway as of mid-August. "The contractor is finishing up the last pieces now," Bussiculo said at the meeting. The park is designed to accommodate small concerts, community gatherings, and everyday recreation. The Business Improvement District is exploring additional enhancements along the South Springfield Avenue frontage.
According to the township, the upgraded park will serve as a community gathering space once construction concludes. Residents can check Union County Life for updates on the official opening date and any ribbon-cutting ceremonies Springfield may schedule. The park's new Wi-Fi access and seating infrastructure are expected to make it more accessible for extended community use.
