Scotch Plains Fall Freecycle Market October 3, 2026

Maria Torres · Union County Life

The Scotch Plains Department of Parks and Recreation is hosting a Fall Freecycle Market on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Jerseyland Park, 2354 Beryllium Road. The event is designed to reduce waste by giving residents a way to pass along items they no longer need.

Drop-offs run from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m.; shopping opens at 11:15 a.m. and runs through 1:15 p.m. The shopping portion is open to Scotch Plains residents and shoppers from outside the community. All items are free to take.

Donating is by appointment only, and Scotch Plains residents must register in advance to reserve a drop-off time. Registration opened August 18, 2026, and is scheduled to remain open through September 25, 2026 — though it may close sooner if all slots fill. Space for donations is limited.

Before arriving, donors must pre-sort items into the accepted categories and ensure everything is boxed and in working order. Accepted items include children's toys, puzzles and games, seasonal decorations, small appliances (excluding glassware), kitchenware, sports equipment, DVDs and video games, and flowering items. The event does not accept books, glass, bags, items containing liquid, clothing, shoes, electronics, bicycles, or car seats.

Councilwoman Elizabeth Stamler, a supporter of the Freecycle event since its inception, describes the philosophy: "Give what you can, take what you need." She added: "Residents can donate gently used items they no longer want, while others can browse the available items and take what they can use."
