Union Catholic Girls Tennis Team Wins First Match of Season

The Union Catholic High School girls tennis team earned its first victory of the fall season on Wednesday afternoon by defeating Jonathan Dayton High School. The 4–1 decision at Kramer Manor Park in Scotch Plains evens the Vikings' overall dual-match record at 1–1.

The Vikings established immediate control by securing victories in four out of the five individual flights. Union Catholic swept all three singles matchups to anchor the team win. Ella Moritz led the singles production at the second slot by turning in a 6–2, 6–0 victory over Yve Lieberman. At third singles, Mahika Salariya cruised to a straight-set 6–2, 6–2 victory against Sharlyn Dubey.

The doubles teams completed the dominant performance for the Scotch Plains campus. Dulce De Ocampo and Bella Lin paired up at first doubles to secure a 6–1, 6–3 win over the Dayton tandem of Jaclyn Wang and Julia Brendell. At second doubles, Taylor Sesely and Sofia Acevedo wrapped up the final point for Union Catholic by holding off Payten Santiago and Gwenyth Patchman with a hard-fought 6–3, 7–5 performance.
