Westfield Public Schools Network Outage Update
Maria Torres · Union County Life
Westfield Public Schools continued to suffer district-wide phone and network outages for a second day on September 2, 2026. Superintendent Dr. Raymond Gonzalez updated school parents and staff via email Wednesday afternoon regarding the ongoing situation.
"I realize this update is reaching you later than I would have preferred," Gonzalez wrote. "As this situation continues to evolve, I want to be deliberate about confirming information before communicating it broadly so that the updates we provide are as accurate and reliable as possible."
The technology team continues to work alongside external information technology experts to conduct a thorough investigation into the disruption. "Please keep in mind that this investigation remains in its early stages and is ongoing," Gonzalez stated. "Restoration efforts are continuing, but some services and systems will remain inaccessible until we are confident that they can be safely brought back into service."
As of Wednesday evening, internet and Wi-Fi (including clocks and access to instructional tools), district and school phone lines, and the student information system (including parent portals) remained affected.
With phone service unavailable, Gonzalez directed parents to email their school building principal for routine matters. Principals will check email when internet access permits. For urgent matters, parents were advised to come to school offices in person during school hours.
The district maintains operational on-site emergency safety systems and protocols, with processes in place to ensure that families can be notified should circumstances require emergency communication.
Gonzalez thanked families and staff for their continued patience and support.
