Westfield Schools Receive $39,000 in Donations

Maria Torres · Union County Life

The Westfield Board of Education approved three donations totaling approximately $39,000 at its August 25, 2026 meeting. The gifts support improvements at Roosevelt Intermediate School, Elm Street Field, and McKinley playground.

The first donation is a $10,000 anonymous gift earmarked for new canopies over student picnic tables at Roosevelt Intermediate School. The second donation, from the Westfield Soccer Association and Youth Soccer Association, is $27,500 for lawn care at Elm Street Field. The third donation, from the Westfield United Fund, is a Buddy Bench valued at approximately $1,568, headed for the McKinley playground.

Kent Diamond, a member of the Finance and Facilities Committee, described the contributions at the meeting. "Tonight, we have $39,000 worth of donations," Diamond said. "We're off to a great start."

Diamond offered brief assessments of each gift. He called the lawn-care donation "much needed" and the anonymous canopy contribution "very generous." Of the full slate, he said: "We're starting this year off with a bang. We have three donations."

The donations demonstrate strong community commitment to improving school facilities and recreational spaces for Westfield students.
